Website design & development terms explained in details

Since you are on this page, you are probably new to website in general and perhaps you are trying to start your first website project. You have come to the right place, we will walk you through all the essential things you need to know about website design & development.

"A website is a collection of related web pages, including multimedia content"

A website project starts with a design (well, actually content comes before design) then the development of that design (the coders will need to write code to translate the design into machine languages that can be used to display your site.

Depending on the purpose, budget and resources, the website can be designed & develop from scratch or can be based on a pre-made template.

Bespoke, custom, tailor-fit websites all mean the same thing: websites designed and developed specifically for you based on deep understanding of your business, your target customers, your needs.

The website design project workflow can go through many steps and take quite some time. Many website service providers use pre-designed, pre-developed website templates to mass generate websites at low cost. The flip side of this practice is that many websites are looking the same with generic layouts that users cannot tell apart. Custom web design and development can take lots of time and resources but consider this:

  • A bespoke website designed exactly for your business will capture attention and bring your message across to turn visitors into leads and sales.
  • A custom developed website is tweaked and optimized to follow the best practice in accessibility and Search Engine Optimization to help you rank well on search results.

Beyond tailor-fit website design

Once you have your website designed & developed, you will want to be able to edit its contents yourself. The backend administration tool that provides the ability to edit the website contents is usually called the Content Management System (CMS). All our websites, for example, are built upon our user-friendly CMS that gives you the power to update and edit your website content and layout without needing any coding skills. Once we deploy the websites for you on our cloud servers, we will help you to ensure that your website is always:

  • Up and running smoothly

  • Equipped with latest tools to manage and grow your online business

Once you have your website up and running, you can utilize our Website Management Packages to keep your site active and fresh to draw visitors and generate leads.

Website Page Layout

Your custom website can consist of a single or multiple pages such as:

  • Home page
  • About us page
  • Contact us page
  • Product listing page

These pages may share the same design with different content, or different design for each page.Web design Page layoutWebsite design Page layout

Multiple pages with same layout are counted as one single "page layout" while pages with different layouts are considered as multiple "page layout". Since it takes minimal amount of work to re-use the same layout on different pages, website design agencies normally count only the different unique layouts.

Website design revisions

A revision is a change or variation to a design concept, and is typically a change of less than 1/4 of the design. A revision is simply meant to be a slight modification or course correction to progress toward the final design. In an ideal world, with our website design services we can do unlimited revisions for each design until we reach the final desired result. In the real world, however, there is a limited number of revisions that can be done before we go over our deadline and budget. Each package in our bespoke web design services we offer has a reasonable number of revisions to ensure that we can wok together toward the final design while keeping everything within your fixed budget.
